Somali Minority Rights & Aid Forum SOMRAF is a young organization with head office in Kenya, and other sub offices in Djibouti, Mogadishu (Somalia), Hargeisa (Somaliland), Ethiopia and Minnesota (USA). SOMRAF is a non political, non-profit making, human rights, aid & development oriented organization founded in 2008. It was established by individuals from the Somali minority communities dedicated to improve the degraded conditions and rights of the underprivileged minority groups in Somalia and Somaliland. SOMRAF seeks to help the minority communities in creating sustainable solutions to the problems they faces, and progress away from absolute poverty, marginalization and unemployment.
SOMRAF founded in 2008 will address complex issues of minority communities through: research, promote minority rights, socio-cultural economic, technological and empowerment of minority communities, enabling minority communities to have access to basic social and development needs and services. SOMRAF mission is to deliver preventive Information to the disadvantaged community and groups amongst the societies, to combat harmful traditions and factors affecting their lives. SOMRAF strives to build self-reliance and sustainable development in the most impoverished minority communities of Somalia, through strategies that promote community participation and individual empowerment. Promoting basic fundamental rights, the right to exist: like everyone, minorities benefit from the right to life. The right to non-discrimination: protecting minorities from direct or indirect discrimination on the basis of ethnic, religious, linguistic or cultural identity. The right to protection of identity: preserving the freedom of minorities to practice their culture, religion and language in the public and private spheres, and taking measures to enable minorities to develop their culture, religion or language. Empowering minority communities in Somalia by addressing their socio-economic and challenges their political participation and representation inline within international human rights standards as well as find out new and creative solutions, improve the access of Somali minorities to justice and to increase their capacity to defend their rights to achieve justice development. Promote conciliation and peaceful integration, eradicate injustice, social exclusion, alleviate poverty and suffering among vulnerable people, to enable them enjoy equal rights and dignified life with other Somalis. To increase awareness of the plight of minority communities, marginalization, unemployed, poor livelihood, idle and less privileged minority people in Somalia. Facilitate community-based project, provide proper health care and initiate self-employment opportunities, improvement of living standards.
Plans: Workshop on promoting peace through social justice, awareness raising on the rights of minority communities in Somalia. Publishing a field research about the situation of Minority communities in Somalia.

Membership of the Somalia NGO Consortium in renewable annually. All international and national members work in Somalia.
